We went after a day of touring we were not dressed up and there was no problem. There is no kids menu, but non-fussy, basic burgers and fries can be had. Also a steak can easily be shared by a couple or three children. We saw suits to shorts, but dressy casual would be most appropriate. That can mean a lot of things, but generally speaking means pants/skirt and a "polo" shirt/blouse or regular shirt with collar. Since DC is such a tourist attraction I can't imagine any restaurant not catering to families with children. This is a top notch restaurant. All in all, I would say "neat and clean" is appropriate. Women were in nice slacks or dresses. I went to the one in D.C. The dress code at The Capital Grille is Business Casual. I wore a casual dress, hubs wore a polo and slacks-it was a Sat night and we were fine. But nothing with holes or shorts! Those dining near you may be discussing business and wouldn't appreciate loud, squirmy children at the next table.
Tip- skip the sodas they come in (adorably) small coca cola glass bottles and are pricey... get tap water instead.
